Day 1 Morning Class - Getting Started with Longarm Quilting: Class Description: Everyone can learn something new in this basic class – whether you’ve only pieced quilt tops or have finished a whole stack of quilts. Prepping your quilt top properly, choosing and marking designs on your quilt, and selecting batting and backings will all be covered in this class. Threads, needles and tension and their relationship to finishing quilts will be discussed. Bring one of your finished quilt tops, if you like, to explore different design ideas for your quilt.
Topics Include: * The basics of machine and frame maintenance * Tensioning bobbins and longarm quilting machines * How to load quilt onto a frame * Quilting Pantographs, Groovy boards and stencils * Rulers, Basic freemotion, and Handi Gadgets
Day 1 Afternoon Class - Free Motion Quilting. You Can Do It! Class Description: Ready to tackle free-motion quilting? It’s as easy as starting with a few simple shapes! By beginning with drawing, you can develop an inventory of free motion designs that you can stitch out continuously. Fun fills, creative borders and easy blocks will all be demonstrated. Quilting out beautiful designs using free motion techniques will take your skills to the next level.
Topics Include: * Drawing basic free-motion designs in a continuous line * Scaling fills for backgrounds * Creating your own edge-to-edge designs * How to fill borders evenly * Micro quilting and using different feet
Day 2 Morning Class - Can't Have Enough Rulers! Class Description: Do you love rulers? But are you still looking for new ways to use them? In this class, we’ll focus on building an inventory of design ideas using the HQ VersaTool and other HQ rulers. Point to point quilting using markings already on your quilt – like seams or corners – is a cinch with rulers. We’ll start with ruler basics, then move on to creating beautiful designs for your entire quilt. 5 Topics Include: * Ruler basics: the right foot, ruler base and ruler * Point to point quilting using the markings on the rulers * Using a ruler for a design base on an entire quilt * HQ VersaTool® : stitch-in-the-ditch, cross-hatch, piano keys, clamshells, and arcs * Quilting around applique or embroidery with rulers

User-friendly and simple to operate, the step-by-step process for each function is easy and fun. Amy Domke was a fine arts major in college. When assigned a project using an "unconventional" medium, she made a quilt with the help of her neighbor. Thirty years later, Amy is still quilting. She loves exploring new styles and trying new techniques. After many years of renting time on a longarm at a local shop, she purchased her own machine. She now quilts professionally on a HQ Infinity? with Pro-Stitcher?.
Amy teaches quilting classes at her local shop, ranging from ruler classes to longarm classes. She also travels to give one-on-one instruction to new machine owners. From her studio, she also accepts quilt commissions and is in the process of releasing patterns for her original designs. She has been featured in some Handi Quilter ads.
Amy lives in Oregon with her husband, Chip, and their three dogs. She is an avid tennis player and loves to hike the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
