It Takes A Village Block Exchange

What is a block exchange?

It's a way for quilters to make and exchange quilt blocks with one another.  Usually the exchange is set up in such a way that each quilter puts in a set number of blocks, all the blocks are put into a group or pool, shuffled and then a different set of blocks is sent back to each quilter. 

Cost:

• $25 which includes pattern and first round of fabric 
• Participants get 10% block fabric at AQC through out the exchange.

The Rules:

• Sign up now through December 31, 2022 at A Quilter’s Corner Store or on our website www.aquilterscorner.com under classes.
• Twice a month make 11 identical house blocks as per quilt pattern instructions.  You will then keep one house and bring the other 10 in to A Quilter’s Corner to trade them.  We will organize the trade and issue you 10 random blocks with every exchange (starting on the second trade.)  We will do a total of 12 exchanges which will result in the 132 houses you need to put together the Village quilt.

• Background fabric rules:  Please use a tone-on-tone white for the background fabric. A very low contrast print on white is also acceptable.  Each exchange can use a different white.

• Estimated fabric requirements for each exchange:
• 1/8 yard for House Main (22) 2 1/4 x 4 1/2
• 5” strip WOF for roof.  Cut (6) 5” squares and then cut again diagonally
• Fat Quarter for the door.  (11) 2” x 2 3/4” blocks
• Scraps for chimney variant or Fat Quarter
• Window or additional House (main) color - (11) 2 1/4” x 2” blocks from new FQ or House Main 
• Background 4” strip WOF

• January 14, 28
• February 11, 25
• March 11, 25
• April 8, 22
• May 13, 27
• June 10, 24

End of Exchange:

• We will have a house swap at the end of the exchange if you wanted to exchange blocks with your fellow quilters to finish off your quilt. 

• In the fall of 2023 we will have a Village quilt contest for participants. Quilts will be displayed throughout the store and voting through out the month. There will be prizes for creative layout, creative quilting, customer choice and AQC choice.
