Sheryl Dalpe welcomes every grandchild that comes into her family with a handmade quilt. She is known as Meme’re to her grandkids (of French origin, pronounced “Mem - may”) and hopes that each grandchild will cherish the quilt for their entire life and know how loved they are.
Sheryl created Little Hooter from Legit Kits for grandchild #6, a girl, arriving early 2025. The original design measured 40” x 50” and used 75 different colors of Kona cotton. Sheryl made that size but ALSO enlarged the foundation paper pieced pattern to 40” x 50” to make a second quilt.
Minky cuddle fabric was used as a backing for the larger quilt. The texture of the backing is just as incredible as the beauty of the front.

She used a quilting motif from “A Bit Orange” called "Hoot Hoot a Little Hooter" created specifically for the Legit Kits design. The motif was quilted in sections when Sheryl rented time on the BERNINA Q24 here at Cupcake Quilts. Sheryl enjoyed learning how to stitch the designs in sequence - face, body, wings, background, etc. using Q-matic (robotics).

There was a bit of math involved as the quilting sections had to be scaled to accommodate the increased size quilt, but that was part of the fun! Julie Dippel, Cupcake Store Manager, was instrumental in Sheryl’s success quilting Little Hooter.
