Luv2Knit & More Mission 

Located in Jenkintown, right at the northern edge of Philadelphia, Luv2Knit & More amplifies the intersection of the tight knit fiber community and the therapeutic aspects of fiber art. From the nonprofit work we do with Therapeutic CraftCare, to the lessons and conversations we have every day - we are working towards a more unified collective of unique and diverse crafters. 

Through careful selection and intentional sourcing we pride ourselves on offering a large selection of high quality yarns and notions to find inspiration in or rely on for any fiber need.

The Knitty Gritty 

Ellen Rubin, owner and founder of Luv2Knit & More, formally trained as a scientist, opened Luv2Knit in April of 2017. You may be wondering, how exactly did this immunologist find herself taking the leap to open her own local yarn store after working towards a career in science for over 18 years? Amongst the toils of several major life events colliding around the same time, Ellen took up knitting as a means of finding some peace in the storm that life was throwing her way. Unlike many people who learn fiber arts at a young age from a relative, Ellen taught herself at 30 years old. She can remember the incredible frustration involved in this process and imparts this memory to many of our clients but especially to those who find it just as difficult as she did. This work, helping folks of all backgrounds find their peace within fiber art, was the drive behind Ellen’s entire mission in opening a brick-and-mortar store. She developed a nonprofit, Therapeutic CraftCare, alongside Luv2Knit & More to allow the volunteer work to thrive with a foundation of support from a business. The enthusiasm for helping folks who may never have access to the support and skills we provide, the heart behind it all, is Therapeutic CraftCare.

TCC Team

Ellen and her partner in fiber crime (or rather, justice), Toya Algarin, have been working side by side with the Philadelphia School District to bring crochet lessons to children on the autism spectrum. This work extends to after-school programming also incorporating literacy. They have worked in a number of settings including the Boys and Girls Club. 

The Stitch - EWE - ation

We approach our lessons with compassion, patience and calculated instruction which enables every student to find success in the process of learning their chosen fiber art. We specialize in teaching folks with a variety of backgrounds or life experiences including but not limited to those on the autism spectrum, physically disabled folks, people who experience mental health difficulties and beyond. We pride ourselves on being unconditionally accepting of those who seek our help to learn fiber art. 

Folks may come in to learn how to knit or crochet but they leave with a skill set that involves utilizing patience, pushing through the frustration of learning something new as well as the experience of being seen, heard and accepted. We have refined this teaching process to meld with all the different folks we teach, fostering success with every student.

Over the years Ellen had gained the support from a fleet of dedicated volunteers, a few of which she took into her team as employees. In 2025, she was able to solidify a full staff consisting of a creative director and manager- Roe and an assistant manager- Robin.

We collectively work diligently to curate an amazing experience at Luv2Knit & More.

Meet Our Tight Knit Community!

Ellen (She/Her) - Owner

Ellen’s fun fact is that she has performed as a clown and of course that her career before owning L2K was as a scientist. 

Ellen’s favorite weights of yarn to work with are worsted and fingering. She could never single out any of her “yarn children” so she has chosen to plead the 5th regarding her favorite yarns. 

Roe (They/Them) - Creative Director

Roe’s fun fact is that their first knit garment was completed in 1 week without a pattern. 

Roe’s favorite fibers to work with are Marla by Manos when they’re feeling bold and Pascuali Balayage for not only the alpaca content but its color vibrancy. Their favorite project to work on is balaclava hoods for loved ones. 

Robin (She/Her) - Assistant Manager

Robin’s fun fact is that she lived in North Dakota for 4 years. 

Robin’s favorite project that she has worked on is a cardigan made with Juniper Moon Beatrix. Her favorite fibers to work with are Cascade 128 for the feel and Juniper Moon Cumulus for its versatility.
