Drawing the Portrait

Join artist, David Pettibone for a 6 week, remote portrait drawing course. Working from references, we will focus on anatomy and shadow shapes to develop fully realized portraits. We'll utilize various mediums including graphite, charcoal and mixed media. This is an interactive workshop. Students will be given exercises to complete outside of the hour and a half meeting time and will receive feedback during class time. We will explore examples through art history, demonstrations will be given and discussion will be encouraged. Recordings are available for the duration of the 6 weeks.
Supplies:
Drawing paper- suggested: smooth texture- bristol
(also- we will be experimenting with wet mediums such as ink, gouache/watercolor the last few weeks so you may want to get a pad of mixed media drawing paper or a few sheets of hot press (smooth) watercolor paper)
Graphite pencils: 4h, hb, 2b, (optional) 6b
Charcoal- extra soft vine charcoal, a stick of extra soft compressed charcoal, extra soft charcoal pencil
chamois
vinyl eraser, kneaded eraser
india ink
watercolor brushes- a variety
your favorite drawing pen- suggested: micron brand (fine point- I have a micron 03)
